Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Yannick Ormen (“we,” “us,” or “CoupleGoals”) collects, uses, and protects information when you use the CoupleGoals mobile application (the “App”).

We respect your privacy and are committed to being transparent about the data we handle. If you have questions, contact us at contact@couplegoals.ch.

1. Who is the data controller?

We are based in Switzerland and process personal data in accordance with the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP, revised 2023) and, where applicable, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

2. Who can use CoupleGoals?

CoupleGoals is designed for adults in committed relationships. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account and use the App. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

3. What information do we collect?

We collect only the information necessary to operate the App. Specifically:

3.1 Information you provide directly

Account information: your email address (used for sign-in) and a display name of your choosing. We do not require your real name.
Authentication identifiers: if you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive a unique identifier and your email address from those services. We do not receive your password.
Couple data: when you pair with a partner, we store the link between your account and theirs.
Content you create: the challenges, to-dos, events, reactions (“Sparks”), and notes you create within the App. This content is shared between you and your paired partner.
Optional inputs: event titles, dates, optional notes, optional person names (e.g. whose birthday).

3.2 Information collected automatically

Device information: device type, operating system version, app version, and device language. Used to ensure the App functions correctly on your device.
Push notification tokens: a unique token generated by Apple Push Notification service (via Firebase Cloud Messaging) so we can deliver notifications to your device. You can disable notifications in your device settings at any time.
Usage analytics: anonymized or pseudonymized event data (e.g. “user logged a challenge,” “user opened settings”) collected via PostHog to help us understand how the App is used and improve it. We do not link this analytics data to your real-world identity.

3.3 Information we do not collect

We do not collect: your contacts, location, photos, microphone, camera, biometric data, health data, financial information, or browsing history outside the App.

4. How do we use your information?

We use your information to:

Provide the core functionality of the App (create accounts, pair partners, store and sync your shared content, deliver notifications).
Send notifications about your partner’s activity (with your consent — managed in your device’s notification settings).
Maintain security, prevent fraud, and resolve technical issues.
Understand how the App is used in aggregate, so we can improve it.
Communicate with you about account issues or material changes to the App (only when necessary).

We do not use your data for advertising. We do not sell or rent your personal data to anyone.

If you are in the European Union, the United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction governed by GDPR-equivalent law, our legal bases for processing your data are:

Contract performance (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR): to provide the App’s services to you.
Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR): to maintain security, prevent fraud, and improve the App in ways that do not override your privacy interests.
Consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR): for push notifications and any optional features you explicitly enable.

You may withdraw consent at any time without affecting prior processing.

We share data with the following third-party service providers, who act as processors on our behalf:

6.1 Firebase (Google LLC)

We use Firebase Authentication (sign-in), Firestore (data storage), Cloud Functions (server logic), and Cloud Messaging (push notifications). Your data is stored in Firebase’s European multi-region (eur3), which spans data centers in Belgium and the Netherlands. Google’s privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy

6.2 PostHog (PostHog Inc.)

We use PostHog Cloud (EU instance) for product analytics. Analytics data is stored in Frankfurt, Germany. PostHog’s privacy policy: https://posthog.com/privacy

6.3 Apple Push Notification service (Apple Inc.)

Used to deliver push notifications to your device. Apple’s privacy policy: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/

We do not share your personal data with any other third parties. We do not share data for advertising purposes.

7. Where is your data stored?

Your data is stored primarily within the European Union (Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany), via the providers listed in Section 6. Some metadata may transit through other regions for technical reasons (e.g. Apple Push Notification routing). Our providers have certified safeguards for any such transfers (Standard Contractual Clauses, adequacy decisions where applicable).

8. How long do we keep your data?

Active accounts: for as long as your account exists.
Deleted accounts: when you delete your account in the App, your personal data is removed from our active databases within 30 days. Some data may persist briefly in encrypted backups (up to 90 days) before being permanently overwritten.
Analytics data: aggregated and anonymized usage data may be retained indefinitely, as it does not identify you personally.

9. Your rights

Under Swiss FADP and GDPR (where applicable), you have the right to:

Access the personal data we hold about you.
Rectify inaccurate or incomplete data.
Erase (“right to be forgotten”) your personal data — you can do this directly in the App (Settings → Delete Account), or by contacting us.
Restrict or object to certain processing.
Portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format.
Withdraw consent for any consent-based processing.
Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. In Switzerland: the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC, https://www.edoeb.admin.ch). In the EU: your national data protection authority.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at contact@couplegoals.ch. We will respond within 30 days.

10. Account deletion

You can delete your CoupleGoals account at any time from within the App (Settings → Delete Account).

Important: CoupleGoals is a paired application. Deleting your account also deletes the shared couple data — all challenges, events, to-dos, and reactions you and your partner created together. Your partner will lose access to this shared history. We will display a clear confirmation before deletion. This action cannot be undone.

After deletion, your personal data is removed from our active databases within 30 days. See Section 8 for details on backup retention.

11. Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including:

Encryption in transit (HTTPS / TLS for all network requests).
Encryption at rest (provided by Firebase and PostHog infrastructure).
Access controls limiting who can read your data (only you and your paired partner can see your shared content; only authorized administrators can access infrastructure).
Regular security reviews and updates.

No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affecting your data occurs, we will notify you and the relevant supervisory authority in accordance with applicable law (within 72 hours under GDPR).

12. Children’s privacy

CoupleGoals is not intended for use by anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from minors. If you become aware that a minor has used the App, please contact us so we can delete their data.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy occasionally. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, notify you within the App or by email. Continued use of the App after a change indicates your acceptance of the updated policy.
